Pyrate Llama Recording Studio is built inside of a funky old barn on a ranch in the Yamhill County wine country just west of McMinnville, Oregon. The Pyrate Llama sound consists of vintage style preamps and microphones recorded through state of the art analog to digital converters. Using emulations our sound setup is 2" tape running through vintage preamps, and vintage consoles. We have the best of both worlds - the analog warmth of vintage gear with the modern fidelity of cutting edge technology. The live room is a 20x30 foot room that was used for drying walnuts, a painting studio, and at one point an old time dance hall. The control room is 20'x20'. Currently we have 2 guitar amp isolation rooms. The sound, liveliness, and reverb of hundred year old wood makes recording music here easy, inspirational, and fun. Our motto is - Relax, Recharge, Record.

Rates
We have very competitive rates. We are somewhat flexible and depends on the project. Contact us, tell us about your project and we'll let you know what it will cost. We usually have an hourly rate for tracking, and a fixed rate for mixing. If an hourly rate is not your style, then we can work out a total project rate as well. But generally speaking an hourly rate is going to be cheaper in the long run.
We do mastering, but really prefer to hire a mastering engineer that only focuses on mastering. On every big label album the mastering is always done by someone other than the mixing engineer. However if you can't afford who we recommend we'd rather do it than some "cheap" mastering engineer you may find. There have been too many times clients have hired inexpensive mastering engineers and it ended up butchering our work.
Simple overnight accommodations are available, rates negotiable based on size of project.
If you want to rent the studio and use your own engineer the cost would be $30 per hour. An in house engineer will also be present.

This is something we have recorded recently. We are constantly upgrading gear, learning new recording and mixing techniques, and this is one of the latest finished projects that we've done.
This is a track from the ep of The Boondock Boys we did in 2018. Beautiful video shot by Isaac Turner.
